Boaz Beeri

Boaz is a first year MFA student in film production. During his undergraduate studies in Political Science at the University of Toronto, Boaz directed, filmed and edited three documentaries. His most recent project, Who is Deutschland? examines shifting forms of identification with German national symbols during the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Who is Deutschland? was produced and conceptualized with the essential support of Dr. Mark Webber and John Paul Kleiner, at the CCGES.

Boaz’s MFA thesis project will be a documentary film that examines the way digital communication has affected power distribution and identity formation. The theoretical approach would build on the reinterpretation of Habermas’ theories of the “Public Sphere” in the digital age. A separate project Boaz is planning to produce in the summer of 2010 is an exploration of the placement of international humanitarian aid on the German identity map.

He is interested in creating documentary films that incorporate new media for the presentation of complex ideas in a format that fits academic standers and that could be used for educational purposes.
