The European Union Centre of Excellence project housed at the Centre is pleased to present its third annual Graduate Student Conference at its Glendon Campus in Toronto, Ontario, on March the 2nd, 2012. This year’s theme will be “European Union: Instances of Cooperation and Discord/ Union Européenne: entre coopération et désaccord”. The purpose is to showcase graduate student work and promote debate on topics relating to the European Union.

This bilingual conference is organized by York graduate students and faculty and aims to include contributions from graduate students in various disciplines such as law, political science, public & international affairs, gender studies, economics, public administration, geography, history and sociology, among others, and from universities across Canada and around the world.

CCGES and the European Union Centre of Excellence project housed at the Centre are pleased to convene the international workshop “Transnational Private Regulatory Governance: Regimes, Dialogue, Constitutionalization” for March 1-2, 2012.

This workshop is being presented under the auspices of the Comparative Research in Law & Political Economy Network based at York’s Osgoode Hall Law School and will bring together scholars based in Canada, the United States and Europe and from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2012 DAAD Study Tour “Living Green in Stuttgart and Freiburg: promises and challenges of urban sustainability in Germany’s South-West” which will run from May 25 to June 2, 2012. The annual DAAD Study Tour is open to graduate students at Canadian universities and is intended to provide participants with an interdisciplinary look at themes and debates shaping German public life.

Successful applicants will be awarded a DAAD travel grant covering most of the expenses for air-travel, local transportation, accommodation and cultural events. To augment the support from the DAAD, student participants are asked for an individual contribution of $400.

The deadline for applications is Wednesday, February 29, 2012.

Call for Applications: 2012 DAAD Study Tour – Living Green in Stuttgart and Freiburg

Prof. Shelley Hornstein will be convening an international workshop under the title “Starlets and Starchitecture: Women, Celebrity and Architecture across Borders” on Saturday, March 3, 2012. This event will bring together scholars from a variety of discipline and countries to consult on the creation of an interdisciplinary course that is intended to locate the work of women and celebrity architecture and point to the enormous strides made by women in design and architecture internationally.
