The fourth annual CCGES Graduate Student Conference is taking place this year under the title “The Inhuman – Investigating Continental Thought in the Humanities “.

This conference will explore the influence of German Continental philosophy on the Humanities disciplines, using the concept of the “inhuman” to examine new avenues for the investigation of purported oppositions between the human and the animal, the ecological, and the spiritual. Talk: Polarized Regional Development in east Germany Part of the CCGES Research Seminar

An expert in regional economics and urban planning, Prof. Krätke will use his talk to examine these developments with particular attention to the situation in German-Polish border regions. Graduate Diploma Research Colloquium

On Monday, September 22md, the initial meeting of the 2008-09 Graduate Research Colloquium will take place at the Centre from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Students enrolled in the Centre’s Graduate Diploma who have not yet fulfilled this requiremed element of the program are encouraged to attend this session.

During this session, the Diploma Coordinator, Prof. Burkard Eberlein, will present the planned content for the Colloquium and offer students an opportunity to ask any questions they may have.

The second meeting of the Colloquium will take place the following Monday, October 6th at the same time and place. Regular meetings of the Colloquium will then follow at two-week intervals.

Time: 12:30 – 2:00 p.m.
Location: 230R York Lanes
