John Kannankulam is Professor for Political Economy and European Integration at the Institute for Political Science at Marburg University, Germany. He is a DAAD-Visiting Professor for the 2013 Fall-Term at the CCGES and at the Departement for Political Science at York where he teaches a class on the European Union and one on Classical Marxism with special attention to Historical Materialist State Theory. His research focuses on European Integration, the Political Economy of Germany and the UK, European Migration Policies and Historical Materialist State Theory. Currently he is finishing a collaborative publication which is the result of a DFG-sponsored research project (www.staatsprojekt-europa.eu) on the struggles about a common European migration policy from a critical perspective. During his stay he is organising a transatlantic workshop together with Prof. Ulrich Best on Borders, Migration & Crisis which takes places on Nov 29/30 at the CCGES.
