Terry Maley

0911A_D70_CCGES_077 Terry 3 4x6Terry Maley completed his Phd in the Political Science department at the University of Toronto in 2004, and joined the York faculty (Political Science dept.) in 2006. He spent 2007-08 on research leave at the Free University of Berlin completing a manuscript on the early 20th century political and social thinker, Max Weber, titled, Democracy and the Political in Max Weber’s Thought: A Critique. The book comes out of Maley’s long-standing interest in European social and political theory. He has been a faculty affiliate of CCGES since October 2009.

While in Berlin, Maley also began research on a critical study of the democratic citizen budget initiatives that have sprung up all over Europe in the past ten years.  A comparative article on European and Canadian participatory budgets has just been completed. A follow up piece is in the works, tentatively titled, Participatory Budgets in Europe After the Meltdown: Democratic Participation in Neoliberal Times.
