Talk: Frank Scherer on Freud’s First Child Analysis

freudOn the centenary Sigmund Freud’s Analysis of a Phobia in a Five-Year Old Boy (1909), Frank Scherer (PhD candidate Social and Political Thought) will present a talk entitled “Zarafa or Little Big Hans: Some Reflections on the Centenary of Sigmund Freud’s First Child Analysis and the Viscissitudes of the Castration Complex. Here he will reexamine this work with a view to shedding light on its hitherto unexamined facets including the Orient of race, gender and sexuality that emerges from its pages or the stunning editorial resurrection of the phallic mother/woman at the hands of his daughter Anna Freud.
