Professor Burkard Eberlein joined the faculty of the Schulich School of Business as Assistant Professor in the Policy Area as of August 2005. From 2003 to 2005 he was a DAAD Visiting Professor in the Department of Political Science and a resident scholar at the Centre. Professor Eberlein holds a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the London School of Economics. He studied for his doctorate in Political Science at the University of Konstanz, Germany, and at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris. In addition to teaching in Konstanz and Paris, he was also a guest lecturer at the University of Tampere, Finland. In 1997/1998, he joined the European University Institute in Florence, Italy, as a post-doctoral Jean-Monnet Fellow. From 1997 to 2003 he held the position of Assistant Professor of Political Science at the Technical University in Munich. Professor Eberlein’s areas of expertise include comparative public policy and EU Governance and Policy-Making. In particular, he has worked on the political economy of electricity market reforms in Europe. Over the last years, he has contributed to third-party funded research projects on regional politics and on utility regulation in the EU. He has just launched a new EU-funded project on energy market regulation in Canada and the EU. The project launch was marked by the CCGES Transatlantic Energy Conference, organized at CCGES on September 9 and 10, 2005.

Prof. Eberlein will be on sabbatical from July 1, 2011 – June 30, 2011.
