Florian Koch

Dr. Florian Koch is Professor for European Studies and Regional Development at the Universidad del Norte in Barranquilla, Colombia and holds a long-term lectureship of the DAAD – German Academic Exchange Service. He is the director of the Institute for European Studies at Universidad del Norte and helps to establish research on the European Union in Colombia. Between June 4 – July 6, 2012, he will be a Visiting Scholar at CCGES.

Florian studied spatial planning and social sciences in Dortmund, Rome and Berlin and completed a PhD on the concept of the European City and its application in the new EU-member countries. He was coordinator of the spatial planning program at Erfurt University of Applied Sciences and published on the future of the European City, urbanism and governance.

His main research areas include: Multi-Level-Governance, urban and regional studies, EU-Latin-American relations and local economic development.

During his stay at CCGES, Florian Koch will research on trade agreements between the EU and Latin-/North American countries, comparing suburban development in Colombian metropolitan regions with global metropolitan trends and exploring the research activities on European Union Issues at York University.
