Uta Klein

Prof. Uta Klein (Institut für Sozialwissenschaften,Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel/Germany) was a visiting scholar at CCGES in June 2011. Uta Klein is a sociologist, Professor of gender and diversity studies and head of the gender research group at Kiel/Germany. She has been member of the UNESCO Commission of Experts in the program “Culture of Peace”; she has taught in Austria (Graz), Israel (Hebrew University) and Tallin (Estonia) and helped establishing gender studies as a DAAD short term lecturer; she has held a fellowship at the Van Leer Institut Jerusalem/ Israel as a member in the  Project “Europe in the Middle East” (a.o. doing a research on military and gender in Israeli society) and has held the “Aigner-Rollett-Guestprofessorship for Gender Studies”  at Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz/Austria.

Her main research areas include: Gender equality policies and gender arrangements in the European Union; diversity and society; Israeli society; military and gender.

During her stay at EUCE York, Uta Klein worked to revise her 2006 book “Geschlechterverhältnisse und Gleichstellungspolitik in der Europäischen Union”, analyzing the changes of gender equality and anti-discrimination law in the EU and of policies. As she is doing a research on diversity in German higher education, she was furthermore exploring the diversity and anti-discrimination activities at York university.
